Lake Ontario Shoreline Flooding
Speaker Bernie Gigas is a registered NY Professional Engineer and a Greece, NY shoreline resident who has analyzed Plan 2014 and IJC published daily system data from January 2017 through today. His presentation covers policy and operational limits of Plan 2014 and shows how these affect Lake Ontario levels throughout the year. His goal is to provide shoreline relevant insight into to the complexity of the system, the multiple conflicting interests and Plan 2014 contribution to 2019 record flooding on Lake Ontario.
Bernie has presented his assessment to IJC senior leadership, members of the International Lake Ontario St Lawrence River Board (ILOSLRB) and representatives of the US Army Corps of Engineers. He offers a number of possible solutions to improve our collective chances of avoiding future flooding.
